The Jura Regatta is a family-friendly day of water based activities. The core of the Jura Regatta are the rowing races; featuring men's and ladies’ races in singles or doubles, handicap races for under 12s, 12-15 year olds, and over 50s, and a mixed doubles race. The day starts with the sailing race, where local boats compete in a handicap race around Small Isles Bay. This is followed by a raft race, before the rowing starts.  The rowing races are interspersed with swimming, kayak / canoe, paddleboard and outboard motor races.

- [Charity Pop Up Pizza in the Village](https://isleofjura.scot/charity-pop-up-pizza-in-the-village/): A few of us from Knockrome set up a pop up pizza stall to raise money for Jura Juniors on Thursday.  We made 77 pizza bases and baked away on two ovens raising money for the charity.  Pizza dough took two days to make with two ferments, making a delicious thin but stretchy artisan base, we made margherita, pepperoni, veggie special and ham and pineapple.   It seemed to go down well with people asking when were would do it again ... watch this space!!

The whisky produced then was peaty from character, which differs considerably from the whisky produced today. The distillery was rebuilt in 1884 and produced 64,000 gallons per year back then. In the early 1900’s the distillery was dismantled and the buildings became a ruin.

- [Alfred Barnard at the Jura Distillery](https://isleofjura.scot/alfred-barnard-at-the-jura-distillery/): From Tarbert we reached Jura by Mr. MacBrayne’s steamer “Fingal”, which leaves the mails every Monday. The route was for the most part the same as that traversed on our journey to Islay. The name of Jura recalls to our memories just such a lovely day as when, standing on the pier at Caol Ila, we first saw the island across the Islay Sound. The appearance of Jura from this position is very romantic, the mountains rising precipitately from the sea, same of them to the height of 2,500 feet above sea level. Three of these monster rocks are called “Paps of Jura”, so named from their peculiar shape. Upon these majestic heights no trees strike root, and here and there beetling crags project, with no shadow to break their terrible ruggedness, whilst at their base are everywhere strewn gigantic boulders. The principal denizens of these weird rocks are eagles, red deer, and grouse. The Island of Jura is thirty miles long and seven broad, and contains a population of nearly a thousand persons. Its bays possess all the charms of Oban in miniature, and the mountain lochs team with trout.
