Rowing boats on the beach in readiness for Jura Regatta

Jura Regatta 2025

About Jura Regatta

Craighouse is the place to be on the first Saturday in August, when the annual Jura Regatta takes place. The Jura Regatta is a family-friendly day of water based activities. The core of the Jura Regatta are the rowing races; featuring men’s and ladies’ races in singles or doubles, handicap races for under 12s, 12-15 year olds, and over 50s, and a mixed doubles race. The day starts with the sailing race, where local boats compete in a handicap race around Small Isles Bay. This is followed by a raft race, before the rowing starts.  The rowing races are interspersed with swimming, kayak / canoe, paddleboard and outboard motor races.

Regatta 2025 Results

This year’s sailing race winner was Picollo, helmed by Ridley Errington and crewed by Aila McCallum, with Scott Muir and Alasdair Fairman onboard Big Lebowski taking the trophy for the fastest lap.

Day of the Dead took best dressed in the Raft Race, with Let’s Make Jura Great Again first to make it home to the beach beside the stone pier.

Xander Jones took first place in the Open Swimming, with Harris Patterson winning the Under 12 Handicap.

In the stand-up paddleboard race, introduced in 2024; Konrad Borkowski beat the defending champion, Ridley, into second place.

In kayaking, Chris and Nathan Walton won the Open Doubles with Konrad taking the singles’ title. Angelina Rozga was first in the Under 15s.

Martin and Daniel Boyle took first place in the Outboard Motor race.

Rowan Rozga and Scott won the Ladies’ and Mens’ Singles rowing respectively, while Cian Kavanagh was first in the Under 12s. Ladies Doubles was taken by Maggie Boyle and Katy Beasley, with the Mens’ Doubles won by the formidable pairing of Alasdair and Scott. Angelina also came first in the 12-15 years rowing.

The day’s races culminate in the fiercely contested Intertownship Race, where each boat is crewed by 4 residents from the various townships around Jura.  This year’s winner was Craighouse, represented by Katy, Hugh, Luke and Martin.

Roan Wright accumulated the most points as coxswain, and Ragamuffin was the most successful boat. After their successes on the day it was no surprise that Angelina and Alasdair took home the Junior and Senior Rose Bowls for most points on the day!

The prize giving was held in the village hall at the end of the races, and then it was time for a quick shower and change before the ceilidh. This year’s dance was led by the Lomond Ceilidh Band, ably supported by the fantastic Johnny Rozga on accordion.
