Community
There are many committees and organisations on Jura, run by the people on Jura for Jura. Its the community that keep the cogs moving.
A lot of hard work and dedication, skills and time are given willingly, its what makes Jura an exceptionally social, busy and safe place to live.
Entertainment and events are put on year after year, training is undertaken and new things are thought up all the time.
Here are some of the volunteer organisations on Jura, thank you to everyone who gives their time.

Jura Development Trust – JDT

The Jura Development Trust is an organisation set up by local residents to help improve the quality of life on the island and to ensure that we can influence future developments which will affect us all. It is a community company limited by guarantee with charitable status. This means that we can operate as a business supporting the island, but can attract money from charitable and private sector organisations as well as statutory agencies.

– The Jura Passenger Ferry (funding)
– Community Action Plan 2025
– Pontoons – Craighouse Pier
– Corran Path
– The Antlers Bistrol & Bar (building / lease)
– Jura Community Shop (building / lease)

Jura Juniors
Activities and events for the children 0-16 years old on Jura including Halloween and Christmas party, toddler group, Tentipi events.


Jura Music Festival Committee
Jura Music Festival committee is made up of volunteers and has been going 31 years!
JamDram
Jura’s amateur dramatics group have put on three plays now. The next play is in April 2025 and rehearsals are well underway.

Jura Communnity Facebook Group
The Jura Community Group was created as an virtual notice board for residents and friends of the island. It’s purpose to share information – events, job vacancies, accommodation, business offers, contacts and general enquiries.

Jura Community Store
The Jura Community Store is community owned ad run as a business and we are very grateful to all those that work hard to keep the shelves well stocked and the orders coming in.
Christmas Fair Committee
Christmas Fair is full of cheer, the committee put on mulled wine, mince pies, gifts a plenty and a fabulous raffle!! Cafe is open for tea, coffee and delicious home baking. Tree lights are switch on 4.30pm and the raffle draw is at 5pm


Jura Community Council
Jura Community Council is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Local Authority and run by local residents to act on behalf of Jura. As the most local tier of elected representation, Community Councils play an important role in local democracy.
Community Councils are comprised of people who care about their community and want to make it a better place to live.
Jura Badmington Club


Jura Community Business
Established in 1997, Jura Community Business Ltd (JCB Ltd) is a community owned social enterprise, based on the Isle of Jura.
The organisation is run by a small group of volunteers with no paid staff. Since 1997, it has operated the only petrol station on the island as a community business.
Community Garden – Keills Croft
Rent a raised bed and outside plot to grow veggies.
