2023 Dog Show Results
As reported in the Jottings in 2022:
Despite a brief interlude in our Indian summer, there was an impressive pack of hounds assembled for the inaugural Jura dog show on 11 September. All manner and mixture of breeds– plus a motley selection of owners converged on the hotel field for an event that put the rough into Crufts.
Categories ranged from the waggiest tail – won by Breigha Wang – to the best trick – scooped by Oakley Robb, for his flamboyant biscuit-flipping abilities, while the hotly contested dogthat-looks-most-their-owner prize went to the beautifully matched Mary and Daisy McLean.
Although it was an occasion when excitement tended to get the better of discipline, Arri McCallum managed to keep her cool to win the obedience prize, while Luna Richardson-Compton-Bishop trotted through the agility category in style.
The trio of judges – Mr Pye, Coco Fletcher and Becky, a bemused volunteer who was hauled out of her tent for the occasion – had their work cut out to nominate the Best in Show, but in the end it went to the heroic Paralympian pooch, Arlo Latimer.
Meanwhile the cake stall did a roaring trade and over £400 was raised for the P6-7 kamikaze trip to Ardentinny – because there’s no time like February for canyoning. Many thanks for all those who baked – and bought – cakes, got soaked and cheered on the contenders. There are rumours that it might even happen again next year.
