MWI – Men With Issues – Jura Retreat
Jura welcomed a great bunch of men from Glasgow in February. MWI (Men With Issues!) is a men’s mental health and suicide prevention charity and the lads came to Jura for a few days to re-set and re-calibrate, away from busy lives and make full use of Jura’s wild landscape and cold water. The men stayed at Bothan Jura Retreat and spent their time walking, jumping in the sea, using the 3 degree ice barrel on site, hot tubs and sauna and even got up early to do yoga on the beach with Philippa (therapyonthego) whilst the sunrose infront of them. The men used the firepit and the space to come together in the evening to talk and share experiences, they made their own pizzas and had the most spectacular night skies and made use of the retreat’s telescope.
On setting up the group the founders said:
“We’ve both lost friends and family to suicide so we know how much men in particular are struggling. You always see people say that men should speak out but there just aren’t many places to do so.
“That’s where the idea of the group came from. To give a space where men can meet people who are facing similar issues to themselves and open up before it gets to the point of suicide.”
Pi and Lynton Davidson set up Bothan Jura Retreat not only to create luxury holidays for couples visiting Jura, but also to create a space they could share with charities / groups to help heal, whilst sharing their love of the outdoor and especially cold water exposure. If you are interested in running a small retreat or have an idea Bothan Jura Retreat have booked out the whole retreat four times throughout the year and will donate it to good causes.
