As reported in the Jura Jottings this month, Jura had a visit from Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh on Wednesday 21st May.
After arriving by helicopter at Corran Sands, the couple visited Small Isles Primary School where they spent some time meeting staff, pupils and parents and were treated to an outdoor concert showing some of the talents of our young people.
The school reported:
The day started with an outdoor concert in the sun showcasing our musical talents. Gaelic songs were sung, our highland dancers treated the guests to some dances (even with a technical hiccup!) Some excellent solo and drumming performances were a highlight of the visit. The Royal Highness’ were then treated to lunch and had the opportunity to sample some Wild Venison burgers. The visit finished off with a showcase of our Twelth Night production.
The children were absolute stars and did us proud yet again! Some fabulous comments from the Duke and Duchess on how well the children showcased their talents and engaged with our visitors with courtesy and enthusiasm.
A big thanks to Hugh for being our ‘official’ photographer for the day, our returning High School pupils and the catering team for making the day so memorable.
The final mention goes to our fabulous children who gave our special guests a wonderful Small Isles welcome!
In glorious sunshine, they then moved on to the Care Centre where they were able to meet with local residents in an informal setting over a cup of tea!
It was a very relaxed occasion with much laughter, and many commenting on how easy the royal couple were to talk to. It was then on to the distillery for a tour, followed by a chance to see some local wildlife before heading back to the helicopter.
We understand the royal couple thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Jura!
Thanks to Kenneth Cameron and Pi Davidson for the photos.
