The service was attended by worshippers from the 3 parishes involved as well as representatives from the Argyll Presbytery. The diet of worship included the Narrative, the Preamble and Introduction Vows, the Declaration of Linkage, Signing of the Formula and questions and charges to the minister and the Jura congregation.
Representing the Presbytery was its Moderator Donald L MacKinnon (Kilmore and Oban), the Rev Dr Kenneth Ross, (Netherlorn), and the Rev Dr Roddy MacLeod, formerly of Cumlodden, and current editor of the Life and Work Gaelic supplement ‘Na Duilleagan Gàidhlig’.
Pre-service lunch was enjoyed at the Antlers Bistro as was the hospitality of the Jura congregation.
I hope to visit Islay in 2019 with the intention of also visiting Jura. I have been able to date my ancestry back to Jura through my 3rd generation grandfather Neill McPhail. His headstone clearly says he was from Jura. I hope to find out more family history by searching church history. Would it be possible for you to tell me which church would be the best to visit for information on Jura family history, Will I be able to locate the Clan he would have been from and the colors of his tartan? Is the church located on the Isle of Jura? Is McPhail a common surname for that area? Any help you can offer me would be so appreciated! Thank you so much for any help you can offer – Joan Landon
To the minister of Jura parish church. My name is Lauchlan Steele I live in Paisley near Glasgow. I am a Christian and attend the Elim church here at 20 Gordon street Paisley. I hope you will allow me to share my burden with you. I am 70 years old , way back in 2011, I wrote my own self published book on historical fiction. My book story reflects the infamous highland clearances that took place in the highlands and islands of Scotland. I have written spiritual themes in my story to encourage people to have faith in our LORD JESUS. My book story is titled (Broken Promises Never Die) historical fiction.
So then believe it or not because all publishers and agents require a recommendation regarding the new writer’s manuscript or self published book. The publishers will never read my book story without one. I have been searching and asking notable people for years and hoping someone would read my book story which is difficult. I was thinking of sharing this burden with Greg Coffey the rich man who owns the Jura house, hoping he would read a free copy of my book story and possibly recommend it to any publisher. But my wife Andrea said that is not a good idea. So then I am hoping that you will pray for my book story to simply be read by a publisher. YOURS WITH GODLY SINCERITY LAUCHLAN STEELE
